I absolutely adored Zurich, Switzerland. My day started a little (a lot) shaky; I ended up missing my train to go to the Rome airport and missed my flight; but the nice people at the airport were able to get me on another flight that day and I still had enough time to do everything I wanted to do. I was hoping I would be okay, because security in Europe when going through airports is not like in the US; their security is seemingly more lax; oftentimes you dont have to take out your laptop or liquids anymore. The lines are much shorter and it takes less time to go through; but the point is that I still missed my flight. Also, once you are in the EU, you don't have to go through border control again until you leave; at least thats what my experience was. I arrived in Zurich and immediately took a train into their main train station then switched trains to ride it to the almost top of a mountain; the Uteliberg mountain. I walked the rest of the way up and really enjoyed the view there. Then I noticed an observation tower that you paid 2 euros to use and climbed up the many stairs and got an even better view! It was so amazing; the air was so pure and crisp in Switzerland it was so fantastic. Then I took the train back down into Zurich and explored the town for a few hours. It was such a gorgeous town; I will have to go back sometime. I will say that the hype around swiss chocolate is not unfounded; that stuff is soooo good. Also, they really do sell swiss army knives everywhere. Also they sell lots of pretzels; a butter pretzel is really good but you only need to try it once and then you are done. There are also a lot of dog boutiques that sell really expensive dog collars and leashes and the people in Zurich were the best dressed I have ever seen. Switzerland in general is a really expensive country; they don't use Euros; they use their own currency which is still more expensive than the dollar and literally all of their stuff is SO. EXPENSIVE. Expect to spend way more money than you ever wanted to or needed to when you visit. They also had flowers in their drinking fountains which were really pretty, but I still don't know why. I then flew back to Rome for Easter; but It was pretty fun and empowering to get on a flight with only my backpack if that makes sense; I am used to having to keep track of so much stuff and try to fight for a space for my overhead carry on; but knowing that I would be fine whenever I boarded was awesome.
